Home Sweet Home

SQUEEEEE! It’s official: I am the deliriously happy owner of this 1978 Silver Streak trailer!

As with the Avion, this came to me through the kind of lucky coincidence that really suggests the hand of fate at work. In early February, I got a phone call out of the blue from Lois Codd, a lovely Canadian retiree I’d met in 2017 during my first winter at the Fountain of Youth RV Park and Mineral Springs. She’d admired the Avion and invited me to take a tour of her 1978 Silver Streak. I was smitten and gave her my card, told her to call me if she ever wanted to sell it. Two years later, she was ready to sell. And I was ready to buy!

My new Silver Streak is 33 feet long — a behemoth in comparison to the Avion. The outside is just lovely, with only a few little dings and dents. Like the Avion, it’s made of anodized aluminum and not meant to be shiny bright like the Airstream. I am so in love with the silver-gold combo… and this wrap-around window? I am swooning.

The interior is definitely a fixer-upper — none of the fabulous wood or charming modernist fixtures you see in earlier models. But that just leaves more room for creative and funky updating, right? And Lois did install a gorgeous Talavera sink from Mexico in the bathroom. Won’t that be fun to redesign around? I can’t wait to get started!

I’ll be towing it from the Fountain of Youth to Nevada City the first weekend of April. That should be an adventure…. Stay tuned for the report!
